Subsequent to attending the 64th Session of the United
Nations General Assembly in New York, the Right Honourable
the Prime Minister, Mr Pakalitha Mosisili proceeded to
Vancouver, Canada where he has been invited to deliver a
lecture at his Alma Mater, Simon Fraser University. He is
expected to deliver a lecture on Lesotho and Africa’s
Response to HIV and AIDS and the Impact on Small Countries
on 29 September, 2009.
While in Vancouver, the Prime Minister will meet with the
Premier of British Colombia as well as high ranking
officials in institutions of higher learning.
The Right Honourable the Prime Minister will, from 1 – 4
October 2009, embark on an official visit to Cuba at the
invitation of the President of Cuba His Excellency, Mr Raul
Castro Ruz.
The purpose of the visit is to mark the occasion of the 30th
anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations
between the Kingdom of Lesotho and the Republic of Cuba.
Formal diplomatic relations between the two countries were
established in 1979. Cordial relations culminated in the
establishment of a Joint Commission on Economic, Scientific
and Technical Cooperation in 2000. The Commission meets
bi-annually and alternately in the capitals of the two
countries. To date, five successful Sessions have been held,
the last one having taken place in Havana last year (2008)
and the next one scheduled to take place in Maseru in 2010.
The Rt. Hon. the Prime Minister’s entourage will consist of
the First Lady, Mrs ‘Mathato Mosisili; the Minister of
Foreign Affairs and International Relations, the Hon.
Mohlabi Tsekoa; Senior Private Secretary to the Prime
Minister, Mrs N. Seitlheko; PS Foreign Affairs and
International Relations, Mr J. T. Metsing; Lesotho High
Commissioner to Canada, H.E. Ms. Mot’seoa Senyane as well as
