PRESS RELEASE
The 5th Session of the Joint Commission for Economic,
Technical and Scientific Cooperation between Lesotho and
Cuba will take place in Havana, Cuba from 25 – 26 November
2008.
The meeting will afford the two countries the opportunity to
review their bilateral cooperation over the past two years
and to agree on new activities for the next two years.
The Government of Cuba has been assisting Lesotho
tremendously in the areas of health, human resource
development, physical education and sports. Lesotho has
consistently supported Cuba within the framework of the
United Nations and other international fora. It is hoped
that cooperation will be extended to new areas such as the
energy sector, culture and others, and will in itself, grow
from strength to strength.
The Lesotho delegation to Cuba is led by the Minister of
Foreign Affairs and International Relations, The Honourable
Mohlabi Tsekoa. It comprises: PS Foreign Affairs, Mr J.T.
Metsing; PS Gender, Mr M. Theko; PS Health, Mr T. Ramotsoari;
Lesotho Ambassador to Canada (also accredited to Cuba), H.
E. Ms M. Senyane; as well as other senior Government
officials from the relevant Ministries. The meetings are
held biennially, alternating between Maseru and Havana.
Diplomatic relations between Lesotho and Cuba were
established in 1976. The two countries signed a General
Cooperation Agreement in 2000, which led to the
establishment of the Joint Commission on Economic, Technical
and Scientific Cooperation.24 NOVEMBER, 2008 |
