The Lesotho delegation to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) Telecom World 2009 Conference to be held in Geneva, Switzerland from 5 – 9 October, will be led by the Right Honourable the Prime Minister, Mr Pakalitha Mosisili.

The objective of the Conference is to allow world leaders to focus on economic and social responsibility of using information and communication technologies (ICTs) for sustainable economic development through creating new job opportunities and opening up new investment partnerships.

In 2005 during the World Summit held in New York, the use of ICTs was identified as key role player to achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). In the same year (2005) in Tunisia during the second phase of the World Summit on Information Systems (WSIS), Heads of State and Government committed themselves to the achievement of equitable communications for everyone by bridging the digital divide. Progress made in the implementation of WSIS commitments will be assessed during the World Telecom 2009.

The Right Hon. the Prime Minister will be accompanied by the First Lady, Mrs ‘Mathato Mosisili, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, the Hon. Mohlabi Tsekoa, the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, the Hon. Mothejoa Metsing, Private Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mrs Nyakallo Seitlheko, PS Communications Mr T’seliso ‘Mokela, Ambassador of Lesotho to Switzerland H.E. Dr Mothae Maruping, ICT Specialist and E-Government Advisor to the Ministry of Communications Mr Lebeko Sello and other senior government officials.
